The Armor of God. B.S. 23 Jun 05

What a message. *smile* Preached by Deaconess Lian, her first I believe!=)
***
The armor of god.

Ephesians 6
10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--

Wow. Paul speaks on putting on the armor of God! Imagine that! Putting on that armor would mean invincibility wouldn't it? =) Let's check out the 6 components of this armor:

1. Belt of Truth (Girded your waist with truth)
2. Breastplate of Righteousness
3. Shoes of Peace (Gospel of peace)
4. Shield of Faith
5. Helmet of Salvation
6. Sword of the Spirit

D. Lian then goes on to show and prove us that these 6 components of armor refer to our dear Lord Jesus. Using Scripture,

1. Belt of Truth
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

2. Breastplate of Righteousness
1 Cor 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-- 31that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."

3. Shoes of Peace
Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation

4. Shield of Faith
Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

5. Helmet of Salvation
Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

6. Sword of the Spirit. Self-explanatory from the above Scripture. *wink*

Further confirmation that this armor of God that Paul speaks of, is actually Jesus!

Rom 13
12The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Wow, ever wondered what it's like to put on Jesus? You're putting on the armor of God! That's God's one and only answer to all our problems. That is, showing us more of Jesus! When it's crunchtime, we only have to look to Jesus for our answers.

D. Lian then shared her testimony on the healing of colon cancer that one of her friends experienced. Which was good. Which was really faith-bo osting, praise God :)

Truth is our belt. It holds everything up! It holds the breastplate, the scabbard (which holds the sword) etc. And truth is called truth because... *drum roll* it's meant to be BELIEVED! Nothing surprising ya? :) The law was given through Moses but Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ!

Eph1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14who[b] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

D. Lian then gave her testimony on her students results during her last year of her teaching career. Well, she apparently spotted questions that didn't come out for her students' O Level history paper. Worse still, topics that she told them not to study came out! D. Lian freaked out, and she did the only thing she could. That was, to pray. To cut the long story short, that same batch of students achieved 90% passes and 60% distinctions (approximately). Wow. Many of them didn't even complete half the paper!=) Cool huh.

Isa 59
14Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter.
15So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice.
16He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. 17For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.18According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, Fury to His adversaries, Recompense to His enemies; The coastlands He will fully repay. 19So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

This was God's grand plan of salvation. Note that 'he who departs from evil makes himself a prey'. A prey for what? A prey for the tactics of the devil, making you think that you have to work to earn your blessings. The Lord, displeased at the devil and the resultant injustice that Man was suffering, saved us with His own arm! and His own righteousness! (meaning His own son, Jesus..! -sweet-) God gave Jesus as the solution. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John Mayer - No Such Thing.... :P

Everybody go download!
***
"Welcome to the real world", she said to me
Condescendingly
Take a seat
Take your life
Plot it out in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I'd like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits
Maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can't find the answers
And all of our parents
They're getting older
I wonder if they've wished for anything better
While in their memories
Tiny tragedies

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you got to rise above

I am invincible(3x)
As long as I'm alive

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

I just can't wait for my 10 year reunion
I'm gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you
You will know what all this time was for

BenGen2

Alright... pastor Joshua covered 'Dating' on the 2nd day of BenGen..so here goes :)

***
Numbers 36:6
6This is what the LORD commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, "Let them marry whom they think best, but they may marry only within the family of their father's tribe.'

The choice lies with the lady! *winks* Well, the choice can lie with YOU. You, the child of the Most High God. You can marry who you think best for you! =) Then again, within the family of their father's tribe. i.e. do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. So there's the boundary. Be of good cheer! For you HAVE choices! =)

Proverbs 6
23For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, 24To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress[c] will prey upon his precious life. 27Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?
29So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
30People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
31Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house. 32Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding;
He who does so destroys his own soul.

Yup, and he goes again to warn us on the dangers of adultery. Definitely destructive. Common-sensical right?

Well, the main bulk of the message was on the Samaritan woman and her encounter with Jesus. Though she thought she did not need Him, she actually did! Cos Jesus is the true living water who could quench her thirst for love. Jesus went out of the way to meet her needs:

John 4
3He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4But He needed to go through Samaria.5So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
.
.
.
10Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, "Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
.
.
.
13Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

From verse 5, Sychar means "to be intoxicated with wine". Jesus went out of his way and came to Samaria to intoxicate this Samaritan woman (a picture of the Gentile church, that's us!) with His love! (wine = fruit of the Spirit, peace, joy, love, a picture of His intimacy with us) In verse 10, Jesus plainly tells her that it is He who would be the one to quench her thirst for love forever. For she had had 5 husbands and the one she was living with now was not her husband. Searching and searching for true love, but finding none. Isn't God good? For as we look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, we get so intoxicated by the love He pours out for us. =) So that we have security in Christ. Wonderful.

Well, pastor closed the sermon by touching on the immoral woman in Proverbs 9:

17"Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."
18But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of hell.

Solomon said that we should 'drink from our own cistern'. In the same way, the 'stolen water' here refers to stolen love, stolen intimacy. Water stolen from other's cisterns. i.e. committing adultery. 'Bread eaten in secret' does refer to the act of adultery as well. Yes, stolen water may be sweet, food eaten in secret may be delicious, but that act of adultery and the short-lived highs it may bring will definitely bring one onto a path of destruction. For the dead are there and that the guests of the immoral woman are in the depths of hell. Food for thought?

Ben Gen!

Alright, as promised... though it's kinda late. =) I had one too many camps and expeditions to attend...
***
Well, after Pastor Joshua laid the foundation by showing us our Benjamite inheritance (5 times as much...etc.), he went on to touch on relationships.

Psalms 88:18

Loved one and friend You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness.

The psalm on the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. At the cross, loved ones and friends were put far from Him. He was left, loveless, on the cross (even God forsook Him). And why my friend? So that we might receive His righteousness as a gift and in so doing, we have loved ones, friends and acquaintances for the rest of eternity. You see, what He loses on the cross, we receive. We receive His righteousness just as He received our sins. So there's hope out there! =) Jesus suffered all of that so that whosoever believes on Him will not have a loveless life. Jesus has redeemed me, from a loveless life! =) Rejoice ya?! ;)

Well, and Pastor Joshua also touched on 5 wrong reasons people get attached;

1. Loneliness. This will lead to insecurity, immaturity, and possessiveness. True ain't it? :)
2. Getting old. Hmmm.... Past your shelf life? That shouldn't be a reason to look for love.
3. Jesus is coming back soon! (haha!) -hmm... not sure if pastor meant it as a joke haha. =) Basically, they want to enjoy the pleasures of marriage before the rapture.
4. I'm incomplete unless I'm married. Hmmm... well, Christ completes you. So no worries. =)
5. All my friends are already attached. Pressure huh..?

Yup, to those who have ears to hear, let him hear ya? =) The Holy Spirit will speak to you in His own way.

Pastor then went on to share on the dangers of pre-marital sex. The story of Amnon & Tamar tells us just that. Read 2 Samuel 13! Speaks about how Amnon was so lovesick, he just wanted Tamar by his side. And before you know it, they had sex outside the confines of marriage. He raped her in fact. The devil was behind it of course, with Jonadab egging Amnon on this destructive path.

2 Samuel 13
12But she answered him, "No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing should be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing! 13And I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you." 14However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.
15Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone!"

After Amnon lay with her, he hated her exceedingly! Isn't that scary? Amnon's hate for her was greater than his love for her before they had sex! All because it was not within the confine of marriage. Yup, so be forewarned, girls and guys. =)

Well, next up. Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 24. We see God orchestrating the eventual marriage of Isaac and Rebekah. Isaac's servant, Eleazar (I think), was sent to the well and prayed to God that he might choose the right one for his master. God initiates! and God brought Rebekah to Isaac =) By His grace. With Jesus as our helper 'Eleazar'. Yupz.

Gen 2:21
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

Well, God did bring Eve to Adam, did He? :) So 'fraid not. For you'll not have a loveless life. Look to Jesus, and all these things shall be added.

Dance!

hey ... God's so good. =) haha...

I started the day at DSTA, dance practice for the award ceremony. The HR executives didn't quite like Inyxeus! =( hee... after we've decided on it and all that, they suggest we should try something fresh! Which I kinda agree on actually, after having seen that Ecandus was done last year.

Well, we opted for something retro. The moves will be more fun and all. =) But the problem was, the music and the moves! =) Remembered the rec comm's dance during BenGen and tried to see if a dance session could be arranged. At the same time, this year's J1's mass dance came to mind! If you guys remember, their dance is kinda different from the usual RJ mass dances. Well, it kinda blew me away when I saw it for the first time during orientation this year. So there.=) haha... Well, by a stroke of blessing, Kiat managed to contact his cousin who was in school, studying with someone who knew the song! And the guy turned out to be Kiat's student when he relief taught in RJ! =) haha..blessed or what. We took 3 cabs down to RJ straight after and ended up spending >3hours dancing. Wow. Can't wait to show all of you guys haha. =)

So there. A mini testimony. =) I know the HR executives vetting our dance will be pleasantly surprised. =) Glory to God.

LET US EXALT HIS NAME TOGETHER

At all times I will bless Him
His praise will be in my mouth
My soul makes its boast in the Lord
The humble man will hear of Him
the afflicted will be glad
and join with me to magnify the Lord

Chorus: Let us exalt His name together forever
I sought the Lord He heard me
and delivered me from my fears
Let us exalt His name together forever
Oh, sing His praises magnify the Lord

The angel of the Lord encamps
'round those who fear His name
To save them and deliver them from harm
Though lions roar with hunger
we lack for no good thing
No wonder, then, we praise Him with our song

Come, children, now and hear me
if you would see long life
Just keep your lips from wickedness and lies
Do good and turn from evil
seek peace instead of strife
Love righteousness and God will hear your cry

E.I.C. @ Wala-walas

E.I.C. @ Walas just 2 hours ago! =) haha... fantastic music. Thanks guys... healed my soul. ;) Played one of my favorite happy songs:

YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING

Oohh I would take the stars out of the sky for you

Stop the rain from falling if you asked me to
I'd do anything for you, your wish is my command
I could move a mountain when your hand is in my hand

Words could not express how much you mean to me
There must be some other way to make you see
If it takes my heart and soul you know I'd pay the price
Everything that I possess I'd gladly sacrifice

Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby
To you I guess I'm just a clown
Who picks you up each time you're down
Oh baby, oh baby
You give me just a taste of love
To build my hopes upon
You know you've got the power girl
To keep me holding on
So now you've got the best of me
C'mon and take the rest of me
Oh baby

Though you're close to me we seem so far apart
Maybe given time you'll have a change of heart
If it takes forever girl then I'm prepared to wait
The day you give your love to me won't be a day too late

Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I can sing
Oh baby, oh baby
To you I guess I'm just a clown
Who picks you up each time you're down
Oh baby, oh baby
You give me just a taste of love
To build my hopes upon
You know you've got the power girl
To keep me holding on
So now you've got the best of me
C'mon and take the rest of me
Oh baby

Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby
Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby
Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby
Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby

Oh and Happy Birthday Nora and Zhenhui! =) Was nice seeing you guys again. And of course, the good company...cheers guys!

just trusting God... =)

Ben Gen

Hi guys..just back from Church Camp in KL. Putrajaya Marriot. Was so blessed. God spoke to me in so many different ways.

***
My inheritance is so abundant! =) Check this out. The first words Joseph (a type of Jesus) spoke to Benjamin when he first saw him...

Gen 43:29
Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, "Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?" And he said, "God be gracious to you, my son."

What Joseph did for Benjamin in at the banquet...

Gen 43:34
Then he took servings to them from before him, but Benjamin's serving was five times as much as any of theirs. So they drank and were merry with him.

Silver speaks of redemption.

Gen 44:2
Also put my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, and his grain money." So he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

300 pieces of silver speak of full redemption. 5, the number of grace. =) Wow.

Gen 45:22
He gave to all of them, to each man, changes of garments; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of garments.

We are the Benjamin generation. The generation to whom God gives and gives and never stops giving. Benjamin is the beloved of the Lord! And we are in the Benjamin generation. The generation of the end-times, where we would walk out of Egypt with gold and silver. Wow... just think about it!

More updates soon k! ;)

Like the sun that rises

Limz! here it is...

***
Like the SUN that rises every day
O Lord You are faithful, dear Lord You are faithful,
Like the RAIN that You bring and every BREATH that I breathe,
You are so faithful, Lord.

Like a ROSE that comes alive every spring
O, You are so faithful, dear Lord You are faithful,
Like the LIFE that You give to every beat of my HEART,
You are so faithful, O Lord.

I see a CROSS and the price You had to pay,
I see the BLOOD that washed my sins away,

In the midst of the STORM,
Through the WIND and the WAVES,
You'll still be faithful,
O You'll still be faithful.

When the STARS refuse to shine,
And TIME is no more,
You'll still be faithful,
You'll still be faithful O Lord.
